Because there’s typically a dip in buyer activity in winter the demand drops and there tends to be lower prices because of it. Spring brings those buyers back out, sellers get re-energized, optimisticaly pricing their homes at a higher price beginning in March.
Both buyers and sellers typically pull back in the winter, thinking it’s better to wait until spring, so you face less competition and are less likely to get into a multiple offer scenario in the winter. (and sellers are more willing to negotiate!)
