What It Looks Like to be an agent going into 2025

A new year means new goals and a refreshed focus! 2024 has been a heck of a year for real estate, so it can be easy to get caught up in the losses or hardships of it or simply just continue to carry on how you are, but refreshing your goals for the new year can really be a benefit when it comes to your real estate business. Here are 3 things real estate agents should focus on going into 2025!

Be authentic!

Here’s the deal: People will be passionate about working with you when you present yourself in an authentic way. 

Maybe that means sharing your day-to-day life on your Instagram and Facebook stories or sharing truths about the current real estate market on your social media. Maybe it means meeting your clients where they are at and striving for empathy this year or showing up for your clients in any possible way. Maybe it means having real estate conversations with your peers and colleagues in order to co-work and share ideas while sharing your wins and losses.

All of that being said: It’s IN to be authentic this year. And when it comes to social media, be an educator not an expert!

Capitalize on the fact that you have a fresh start

Seems obvious, we know, but what exactly does it look like? Here are just a few ideas:

  • Sending mailers to wish your past and present clients a happy New Year asking for referrals (providing an incentive is a great idea for this one).
  • Create a freebie for homebuyers, maybe it’s a guide on everything they need to know when looking to buy in 2025.
  • Then market your freebie on your socials! The best way to do this: Run an ad that has people use a form to sign up for your email list and in return they get a freebie. It’s a win-win situation!
  • Write down a list of your “ins” and “outs” for 2025 and one SMART goal for your year.
  • Research the current market and what experts are saying about it, then share it on your social media!

Remind yourself of the new nar regulations

There were some significant changes that happened in 2024 in terms of real estate business and it’s always a great idea to refresh yourself on those changes as you go into 2025!

The NAR Settlement changed some of the following things that are important to recall: 

  • Commission structure changes: Under the settlement, NAR agreed to eliminate mandatory buyer agent commissions. Traditionally, sellers would pay both the listing and buyer agents’ commissions, but now agents and clients must negotiate commissions directly.
  • Clear disclosure of commission: Agents will need to be more transparent with clients about commission arrangements. This includes clearly stating how commissions are negotiated and disclosed in listing agreements and contracts.
  • Changes to MLS rules: The settlement requires changes to MLS rules that may affect how listings are shared and how commissions are structured. Agents may now have more flexibility in how they present their listings and set commission terms.
